Budgie Hazards in the Home.

1, JewellBird proofing your home is important – none of us want to have our budgies encounter any danger when they are having a fly around the living room! Use these great tips to check off and keep things safe! Common sense is the key!ery; nickel and lead plated in particular can be fatal as they are toxic, so no bling for budgie!

2, Teflon; this could well be the most dangerous thing for your bird to come across. It is highly toxic to them and when heated to 500 degrees+, the fumes can kill them. Take great care not to buy any Teflon coated pans for your home.

3,Foods and Drinks; keep caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, salt, avocado, guacamole and onions totally out of their reach as they can be fatal.

4,Aerosol Spray; These can kill your bird! If you NEED to use one, then make sure that your budgie is not in the same room and let the fumes go completely before you allow them in the room.

5, Oils, Potpourri, plug in air fresheners and scented candles; the fumes are very bad for your budgies lungs.

6,Cigarette Smoke, Tobacco etc; this, (as we all know), is bad for all. Never smoke around your budgie as it’s just not fair on them, and make sure that you wash your hands before handling them after you have smoked.

7,The floor and recliners; Keep your eyes peeled when your budgie is out of the cage as you do not want to step on them. Its best to just not use your recliner when they are out of the cage as you do NOT want to get them caught in the mechanism.

8,Fans; All types of fans need to be turned off at all times when your budgie is out and about. They love to explore, and it would be very easy for them to fly into one and get seriously hurt.

9,Children; Make sure that your little ones understand that they need to be calm around your feathered friends. A sudden scream, etc, can frighten the life out of a budgie.

10,Your other pets; the most submissive of animals can surprise you – particularly a usually calm cat or dog – beware, they may get an urge for some baked birdie!

11,Electrical Cords; Budgies love to gnaw and will have a go at anything. This pick of a nibble could well kill them

12, Open doors and windows; Keep all doors and windows closed for obvious reasons!

13,The Laundry Basket; It would be so easy for a curious budgie to get suffocated! Bedding would be a similar hazard.

14,Ovens; Keep your budgie away from these at all times as I’m sure you would feel awful if a mistake were made and the oven on when your budgie walked over the hob…

15,Pools, toilets etc; Make sure that things of this nature are covered at all times as a clipped bird could easily drown when unsupervised.
